1. Schemes Implemented in this District

The Following schemes are implemented in Cuddalore District
I. Scholarship are paid to BC, MBC and Denotified Communities students from 9th standard to PhD., level through various scholarship schemes.
II. Running of free hostels with boarding and lodging from 6th std to degree level to backward classes and most backward classes and denotified community students.
III. Rural Girls incentive scheme to avoid dropout of Girls students of most backward classes and denotified communities.
IV. Payment of General awards at district levels to BC&MBC students who has scored first marks in 10th std & +2 Public Exam.
V. Payment of Perraringnar Anna award to 4 students of BC , professional Courses who has secured higher marks in +2. payment of Thanthai Periyar Award to 4 BC students , those who sre studying in polytechnic who has scored higher marks in 10th Standard
VI. Supply of free tools to Barbers.
VII. Supply of free Iron Box to dhobis
VIII.Issue of loan to BC , MBC & denotified Community people for small business , Small Industries, Service Centres , purchase of Vehicles for hire purpose and agricultural development, through Tamilnadu Backward Classes Economic Development Corporation.
IX. Issue of Micro credit Loans to Mahalir self help groups.
X. Issue of loan to peoples of minorities communities through Tamilnadu minorities welfare development corporation.

Rural Girls Incentives Scheme

To avoid dropouts girls belonging to Most backward classes and denotified communies especially in rural area the Govt. have framed the rural Girls Incentive scheme.
In this scheme the school going girl children studying in 3,4,5 & 6th students of the schools located in rural areas and whose parental (family) annual income do not exceed Rs. 25000/- are being paid incentives amounting Rs. 500/- per children of the 6th standard.
For this the mother or father of the girl children studying in the above classes should open a saving bank account in the near by Post Office and the incentive amount will be credited in their accounts by the concerned Head Matrons on receipt of cheques from Backward Classes Department.
The Head Masters of the above school, should sent applications to the Backward classes office mentioning the name of the child . name of the mother/father, caste of the student , parents annual income , post office savings account , number with name of the post office , amount of incentives
About One Crore Six Lakhs and fifty thousand have been paid as incentives for 2002-03 & 2003-04.

3. Hostels for students studying in High Schools and Colleges.

1. In this district there are 51 hostels as detailed below for the students studying High School & Colleges of Backward classes and Most Backward Classes and denotified communities are functioning. The parental income is below Rs.50000/- per annum and whose residence is more than 5km from the school/college are eligible for admission.

There is a private hostels in kattumannarkoil aided by the Govt. of Tamilnadu. The hostel is being run by the Secretary Parvatharajakulam for poor students. Free boarding and lodging are provided to nearly 133 MBC& 69 BC students every year. Nearly Rs.2.75 lakhs are provided as boarding grants to that hostel by the Govt. of Tamilnadu.

Loans to BC , MBC and DNC Communities at low interest

Loans upto one lakh at low interest are given to peoples of BC,MBC & DNC Communities with age above 18 years for small business, small industries , service centers purchase of vehicles for hire purposes for Agricultural development purposes. The annual income of the applicant should be below Rs. 40000/- I rural areas and Rs. 55000/- in urban areas. They should apply either to the Director Backward Classes Welfare Officer or to the Deputy Registrar of Coop. Societies , Cuddalore

Micro Credit Loans to Woman Self Help Groups.

To improve self help among women loan of value upto Rs. 2000/- per head interest rate at 10% to the BC, MBC , & DNC ladies of members of women's self help group is paid for starting small business like vegetable shops, tailoring shop, sweet stalls , etc., The applicant should belong to BC,MBC,& DNC community and should be a member of Women's self help group atleast for six month and their family annual income should be below Rs. 40000/- in case of rural areas and Rs. 55000/- in case of urban areas. They should apply through the PO, Mahalir Thittam of that district. During this year 2003-04 Rs. 40.48 lakhs were paid to 2024 women by the District Central Coop Bank , Cuddalore.

Loans to peoples of Minorities Community

Loans up to one lakh at low interest were given to people of minorities Communities were issued for starting small business ,small industries, service centers, purchase of Vehicles for hire purchases, for handcrafts and for their traditional business etc.,

For this the applicant should belong to BC,MBC, or DNC with age limit above 18 years. Their family annual should be below Rs. 40000/- in case of rural and 55000/- in case of urban areas. They should apply either to the DBCWO or to the Dy, Registrar of Co-operative Societies of this district.

Scholarship Procedure , Eligibility norms Etc

The application should be submitted through the head of the educational institution where the student is studying to the District Backward Classes Welfare Officer of that District. Details of Scholarship norms etc are furnished below.

a. Prematric Scholarship Special Fees Rs. 22.50 for girl children and Rs.23.50 for male children and Rs 47/- for MBC & DNC for 10th std. Text Books for 9th & 10th Students Examination fees for 10th std are paid.

Conditions : For BC students , parents annual income should not exceed Rs. 50000/-. The student should score marks atleast 40% in annual examinations.

For MBC & DNC - No Conditions

b. Reimburshment of Tution fees to English Medium
The student should study in Govt. or Govt. aided institutions,
For 6, 7 & 8th stds, Rs. 20/- for 10 months.
For 9th &10th stds, Rs. 25/- for 10 months.
For 11th & 12th stds, Rs. 50/- for 10 months.

Conditions : For BC Annual income should be below Rs. 50000/- . the Student should scored least 40% marks in the annual examinations of the previous years. There should be no graduate in their family.
For MBC no conditions.

c. Postmatric Scholarship
This scholarship is paid to the students of +1, +2, I.T.I , Post graduate , & PhD Students etc.,
The tution fees, special fees , book money , examination fees and hostel fees as specified in the Department (BC&MBC) noticification are paid.
Conditions : For BC , MBC & DNC parents annual income should be below Rs 50000/-. They should have scored atleast 40% marks in the previous year annual examination. For DNC students the condition for minimum scoring of marks will not apply. Further the examination fees for MBC & DNC students will be paid without any conditions.

d. Free Education (Degree)
1. Three year Degree courses including Arts & Science subjects. Tution fees , special fees , other compulsory fees , examination fees are paid. At the admissible rates govt. & Govt. Aided colleges.
Conditions: For MBC Students no conditions
For BC Students
Parents annual income should be below Rs. 50000/-. The student should score at least 40% marks in the annual examination of the previous year. There should be no graduate in their family.
Polytechnic / Diploma , Engineering , Medical , Agricultural , Law and other professional courses.
Tution fees , spl. Fees , other compulsory fees and examination fees at the rates applicable to the Govt. and Govt. aided institution are paid.
Condition (For BC , MBC & DNC)
1. Annual income of parent should be below Rs. 50000/-
2. the student should have scored atleast 40% marks in the previous year's annual examinations (not for DNC's)
3. There should be no graduate in their family
