TOWN PROFILE :
1. Waste Generation Tons/day 80
Solid Waste are segregated as degradable and non degradable. In addition to this primary collection carried out through by 70 Nos. of Tricycle by door to door in ward wise collected and segregated to disposal points. Under 11th Finance Commission New Tractor Dozer Front and Loader was purchased for dozing this solids in roads and dumping yards.
As per Govt. Order this Municipality introduced privatization of Solid Waste Management in Thirupapuliyur area covering 8 wards (22 to 29 wards) and is going on satisfactorily .
Cuddalore Town is the Head Quarters of the Cuddalore Taluk and District. It is located at the estuary of river Gadilam and Pennaiyar with Bay of Bengal. The town is at a distance of 200 Kms. from Chennai and 22 Kms. from Pondicherry. The town is well connected by Road and Rail with adjoining Urban centers viz. Chidambaram, Vridhachalam, Panruti Nellikuppam and Villupuram
Cuddalore Town has been constituted as a Municipality during the year 1866 comprising a revenue village. It has been upgraded as Selection Grade Municipality with effect from 09.05.1993 as per the G.O.Ms.No. 651 dated 09.03.1993. The area of this town is 27.69 Sq.Kms. The population as per 2001 Census is 158521. The Municipality consists 45 Wards.
WATER SUPPLY
Protected water supply is functioning since 1938. The source is from Pennaiyar subsequently improvement Schemes were incorporated during the year 1985 and Rejunavation Scheme during the year 1997-98.
Now there are 3 Nos. of Head Water Works at Chavadi, Capper Hills and Thiruvanthipuram with deep Borewell Source.
There are 4 Nos. of Over Head Reservoirs with following capacity:
1) Manjakuppam .. 11.35 Lakhs Capacity
2) Thiruppapuliyur .. 10.00 Lakhs Capacity
3) Cuddalore Old Town .. 4.50 Lakhs Capacity
(R C C Tank)
4) Cuddalore Old Town .. 1.18 Lakhs Capacity
( Steel Tank)
The average daily pumping supply is 6.35 MLD and per capita supply is 40 LPCD. Total Number of public fountain is 434.
There are 6855 domestic and non-domestic house service connections.
The rate of Water charges for domestic is Rs.4.00 per 1000 Liters and flat rate of Rs.40.00/ Commercial is Rs.12/per 1000Liters and flat rate of Rs.120/- and Industrial is Rs.8.00 per 1000 liters and flat rate of Rs.80.00/-
IMPROVEMENTS SCHEME (WATER SUPPLY) :
Improvement to watersupply scheme taken up by TWAD at an estimate cost of Rs.17.00 crores and nearing completion. The work will be completed soon and the work is in progress. At present water is directly pumped to Manjakuppam, Thirupapuliyur, & Cuddalore O.T tank directly through the new scheme.
The Over Head Tank work for the following places are completed and trail work is going on.
Vandipalayam,
Annanagar,
K.K.Nagar,
O.T Dispensary and cholara shed.
Construction of Over Head Tank at Deepan Nagar is nearing completion. After completion of the New scheme work it is anticipated that 90 liters of water per head will be distributed to public upto 2026.
CAPPER HILLS HEAD WORKS:
13 No.of bore well has been arranged and completed at this head works. From this borewells 7800 litres per minute of water expected lifted from 13 Nos borewells and filing to reservoirs.
THIRUVANTHIPURAM HEAD WORKS:
8 Nos. of Bore well has been arranged at this head works. From this borewells 10,000 liters of water per minute is pumped and brought to Cuddalore and stored in the following water tanks.

After completion of the scheme,90 lpcd water can be supplied.
DRAINAGE SCHEMES :
There is no underground Drainage system in Cuddalore Municipality. The sullage water from the houses as well as storm water are collected in open drainage and disposal in the river and field channels thus cleaning health hazard to the people in the required area.
Cuddalore Council Resolution has sanctioned in MCR No.621 Dated 16.09.1988. As per CMA office proceeding No. 16311-96 dated 12.3.96 Rs.8.915 Lakhs remitted to TWAD for investigation charges. UnderGround Drainage Scheme investigation has been taken up by TWAD Board and is nearing completion.
Municipal Council in its Resolution No.499 dated 31.10.2003 has accorded permission for acquiring lands in Devanampattinam for the Underground Drainage Scheme. Proposals for acquiring lands has been submitted to the District Collector on 14.11.2003.

RAIN WATER HARVESTING :
In Cuddalore Municipality all Government Buildings were implemented Rain Water Harvesting structure. In addition to this all private houses, Commercial Buildings, Private institutions, Hospitals were implemented Rain Water Harvesting structure through Municipality insist and completed in full successfully.
SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT :
Cuddalore Municipality is responsible for Solid Waste Management in Town. The management includes Collection, Transportation and disposal of the Solid Waste generated within the Municipal limits. Generation of Waste from households, Hospitals, Restaurants, Markets etc. are dumped in the communal waste storage pins. Subsequently the Municipality collects transports and dumps the solid waste at dumping yard located at Thirupapuliyur, Cuddalore Old Town & Semmandalam. Which are at a distance of 3 Kms. / 5Kms. & 4 Kms. respectively. The current details of Solid Waste Management in town is given below :

BUS STAND :
Cuddalore Municipal Bus Stand is located at Thirupapuliyur area. It is an "A" Grade Bus stand. State Transport Corporations and Private Buses connects the town to all the nearby towns and cities.
SILVER BEACH :
Devanampattinam Silver Beach is one of the important and interesting recreational spot not only for Cuddalore but also for Tourists from other places. The Beach is located on the northern part of the Coastal Stretch which have long shore area like the Marina Beach in Chennai.
