
Historical Development
At the end of second world war the need was felt that would satisfactorily
handle orderly re-absorption in civil life of a large number of service personnel
and war-workers who were to be released. It was considered necessary that a
machinery to be set up a Directorate of Resettlement and Employment was created in
July 1945 and Employment Exchanges were gradually opened at the parts of the country.
Till the end of 1946, employment service facilities were available to demobilised
personnel and discharged war-workers. In response to the growing demand, the scope
of the service is gradually extended to all categories of workers early in 1948.
National Employment Service
Based on the recommendations of Shiva Rao Committee the Govt of India handed over the day-to-day administration of Employment Exchanges with effect from 1.11.1956.
Registration of Employment Seekers
Only citizen of Indian resident in the country are normally eligible to
registration with Employment Exchanges for Employment Assistance.
The Employment Service is a FREE service. No fee is levied on employment
seekers who seek the assistance of Employment Exchanges. The applicants who are
having the residence within the jurisdiction of Employment Exchange are being
registered.
Collection of Employment Market Information
Employment Exchanges are collecting information aboutemployment in
Private as well as Public Sectors. This is being done by what is known as
'establishment reporting' system. Under the system all establishments in
Public and selected establishments in Private Sector engaged in non-agricultural
activities will be asked to give details about number of persons employed
with them.
The information is collected under the provision of Employment Exchanges
(Compulsory Notification of Vacancies) Act,1959 and rules 1960.
Information from smaller establishments in private sectors are also
collected on a voluntary basis.
Activities within the premises
Registration of persons seeking employment assistance and renewal of
their registrations, giving Vocational Guidance, Training Facilities and higher
qualification.
Information regarding shortage and surplus categories of persons available
information regarding Self Employment facilities,advertised vacancies and competitive
examinations and conducting of coaching classes. Nomination of applicants to Public
and Private employers.
Career Study Circle
Conducting Exhibitions to create awareness among the job seekers
regarding the job facilities,training facilities and qualifications which
are registered for various types of courses.
Coaching Classes for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe applicants
are being conducted to make them fit for selection in the competitive examinations
and professional courses.
Special Cell for Physically Handicapped
A special cell is functioning at this office since 1989 to cater the needs
of the physically handicapped persons viz.,Blind,Deaf and Orthopaedically
Handicapped and assistance to them in employment,training facilities are being
given.
Unemployment Relief to Blind persons who have registered in Employment
Office, Cuddalore and who are below 40 years belonging to OC,BC and MBC,45 years
for SC/ST are being given at the rate of Rs.200/- for Literate to SSLC Passed,
Rs.250/-for PUC/+2 and Rs.300/- for Graduates.
